Craft Your Own Energy Destiny

Doughty Residence, Port Townsend, WA

This home is the first grid-tied solar home in Jefferson County. The owner is a personal trainer who helps his clients to accomplish their athletic goals. He sees a parallel between working with your body to reach its full potential and working with your home to reach its full potential.

This home has an excellent solar resource available as you can see from the photo below taken around 3 PM on a Febraury afternoon. The panels are attached to the roof with plastic lumber from recycled materials (this is a low-tech, effective, appropriate, durable, and very inexpesive mounting technique compared to metal racks.) The inverter and disconnects were mounted on the exterior east wall, sheltered from rain and direct sunlight.

Anyone who has ever contested a traffic ticket in Port Townsend will recognize the historic Jefferson County Courthouse in the background of the photo above.
